A social commentator, Frank Oguonunu, has condemned the recent violent clash in Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, which left one person dead.

The incident has prompted authorities to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the community. Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Lucky Otuo, announced the restriction as part of measures to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

The curfew, which took effect from Thursday, 23rd of April, 2026, runs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Authorities have also suspended the activities of the local vigilante group, OSPAC, in the affected community, while residents have been urged to comply with the directive as efforts continue to restore peace.

Speaking with a Bonny FM correspondent, Oguonunu described the clash as “unfortunate and unnecessary,” warning that continued violence would only deepen tensions in the area.

He appealed to those involved to exercise restraint and refrain from actions capable of escalating the situation.

“I urge all parties to remain calm and embrace peace. Violence will not solve the problem. It will only escalate it,” he said.

Oguonunu further called for an immediate end to hostilities and urged relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, stressing that those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.
